What is Early Access? Why was Crossfire: Sierra Squad released as Early Access on Steam?

As VR gaming technology continues to grow and improve, we are aiming high with Crossfire: Sierra Squad. In order to continue to push boundaries and get it right, when CFSS goes live on Steam on August 29th, it will be through Steam Early Access. The Early Access build contains most of the content we’re currently planning for and is extremely playable. We would, however, like to continue to improve the user experience by improving the UI/UX and PC & HMD optimization. This will also help us prepare for cross-platform play with the console version on PlayStation VR2. Our intent is to take the learning we get from player feedback and work it into our full release version. Also, with the player feedback we will be able to add new content in the future.

What features will you be working on during Early Access period on Steam?

Features we will be working on during the Early Access period include:

► Headset Compatibility – There are currently 10 PCVR headsets supported by CFSS. We want to ensure excellent performance across all supported headsets, whether players are playing solo or co-op, and whether they are playing on the same headsets or all different devices. We will be optimizing until we feel that everything is consistently performing as intended. Supported headsets currently include:
Valve Index
Oculus Rift S
Oculus Rift
Meta Quest Pro
Meta Quest 2
Meta Quest
HTC VIVE Pro
HTC VIVE
Windows MR (Samsung Odyssey)
PICO 4

► PC Optimization – with so many PC builds and variants out there in the wild, we want to make sure that everyone has an equally stellar experience with CFSS, regardless of their rig. Optimizing a game to match various PC specs and HMD combinations involves many factors. Steam Early Access allows us to make any adjustments needed to provide the best possible gameplay. By involving players in the process, we can work to ensure that the game runs the best it can on each device.

► Cross-platform play – once we are happy with the performance of CFSS across the variety of headsets and PC setups that are out there, we will be instituting cross-platform play between PC and PlayStation VR2. That means that you’ll be able to easily play with your friends, whether they are on PC or console.

► And more! – we’ll also take this time to listen to player feedback on adding any new features to the game, like new skins, maps, etc. We’ll have more information on any additional features and/or content in the future.

There are 39 different weapons, varying from rifles, pistols, snipers rifles, grenades and more.
Most weapons can be dual-wielded, but recoil may be too strong on some of the rifles to do so effectively.
You can see some details on the types below:
Assault Rifles: the most balanced weapons for all types of battles.
Pistols: secondary weapons that have strong headshot damage.
Sniper Rifles: perfect for long range battles, remember to hold your breath for more precise shooting.

SMG: useful for short range battles.
DMR: in between rifles and sniper rifles in terms of balance.
Shotguns: most effective in short range battles.
Grenades: Thrown weapon which explodes after a short period. There are 3 types of grenades.
Impact Grenade explodes instantly on impact and is easy to handle.
Frag Grenades take a while to explode but do more damage.
Sticky Grenades explode after a certain amount of time they attach to something or an enemy.
Grenades like stimpacks refresh after a certain amount of time.

You can upgrade weapons in your inventory with GP, and unlock perks as you upgrade weapons.

What kind of controls are there?

Use the tutorial in game to get a better sense of the controls.
However you can choose which hand you are more comfortable with. Look at the guide below for the right handed controls:

The main weapon is on your chest and can be grabbed with the right-hand grab button. Release the button and the weapon will return to your chest.
Hold the barrel with the left-hand grab button. Note that some weapons require two hands due to recoil.
Use the right-hand trigger button to shoot.
On your left waist you can use the left trigger button to take out a magazine, bring it close to the weapon to reload automatically.
Note that reloading before an empty magazine will be faster.

On your right-side back you can use the grab button to take out the sniper rifle.
When holding the sniper with two hands, press and hold left trigger to enter scope mode, only pull halfway to hold your breath.

On your left forearm are grenades, use the right grab button to take one. Use the left trigger button to remove the safety pin and throw the grenade. You can also catch enemy grenades and throw them back before they explode.
Note that you should make sure to tighten any supported wrist straps so you don't throw the controller.

On your right forearm is a stimpack. Use the left grab button to take one out and press against  your body to recover HP.
Note that stimpacks and grenades replenish after some time.
Note that stimpacks used on a friend provide a bonus stimpack to you.

Are there any special controls or advanced controls?

Advanced control – sitting, unloading, off-hand control
More options can be found in the controls menu in options. Also, keep pressing A on Oculus / X on PSVR2 throw away the weapon you are holding.

What is Realism mode?

In Realism Mode, features that assist the player such as the HUD, bullet count, enemy location marks, enemy HP, etc. are not displayed. You will have to play more strategically including looking for cover, searching carefully and engaging as players and enemies take additional damage. The maximum magazine capacity is also limited.
The goal of this mode is to provide a unique experience rather than just a more difficult mode.

What is Horde Mode?

Horde mode supports up to four player co-op against 50 waves of enemies.

Fallen teammates can be revived within a set time. A player that has fallen 3 times can no longer be revived. After every 5th wave, neutralized players will revive.
At the start of the 11th, 21st, 31st, and 41st waves, the number of downs will be reset.

If every player is downed, the game is over.
Good luck!
